정신건강의학과 are clinics run by psychiatrists. Outpatient clinics in Gangnam see people for anxiety, depression, insomnia, panic attacks, burnout and ADHD. Appointments are usually short medication consultations of 10 to 20 minutes, while longer counseling or psychological testing is booked separately.
An ADHD assessment typically includes questionnaires, a clinical interview and sometimes computerized attention tests, spread over 1 to 3 visits. Methylphenidate (for example Concerta) and atomoxetine are prescribed in Korea. Amphetamine-based drugs such as Adderall are not prescribed in Korea and are treated as controlled narcotics, so check with the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) before bringing any in.
NHIS covers psychiatric consultations and most medication for insured patients. Psychological testing and counseling are partly covered or non-covered depending on the test. Visitors pay full price. Korean law protects medical records, and psychiatric visits are not shared with employers.

Mental Health in Korea: questions
Can I bring my ADHD medication into Korea?
Controlled medicines such as methylphenidate need advance approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety for personal use. Amphetamines such as Adderall are not prescribed in Korea and may be refused, so apply well before you travel.
How long is a first psychiatric appointment?
Usually 20 to 40 minutes, including questionnaires. Follow-ups are often 10 to 15 minutes.
Can a Korean psychiatrist prescribe sleeping pills to a visitor?
Yes, after an assessment. Doctors usually prescribe a short course and may prefer non-addictive options first.
How many visits does an ADHD assessment need?
Typically 1 to 3 visits for interview, questionnaires and attention tests, plus a results visit.
Will a visit appear on any record outside the clinic?
Records are confidential under Korean medical law. Visitors without NHIS have no insurance claim record in Korea.
Can I get a letter confirming my diagnosis in English?
Many clinics issue a medical certificate or opinion letter for a fee. Ask whether they can write it in English or need a translation.
