What is Minimal-Prep Laminate Veneers?

Gangnam dental clinics promote thin laminates that keep most or all of the enamel. They are the same type of ceramic shell as a porcelain veneer, made thinner, often around 0.2 to 0.5 mm, and designed to add to the tooth rather than replace its front surface.

Because little or nothing is shaved, they suit teeth that are small, slightly rotated inward or spaced. They are less suited to teeth that already stick out, since adding material makes them look fuller.

How it works

The dentist scans the teeth and often makes a mock-up so you can see the new shape in your mouth before anything is bonded. Any preparation is limited to light smoothing of the enamel. A lab makes the laminates, and they are bonded at a second visit about a week later.

Is no-prep really zero drilling?

Sometimes. Many cases still need light smoothing at the edges so the laminate sits flush. Ask the dentist to show where enamel will be touched.

Can no-prep laminates be removed later?

If no enamel was cut, the tooth underneath is largely intact, but removal still involves grinding off the bonded ceramic. It should not be seen as fully reversible.

Why did the dentist say my teeth are not suitable?

Teeth that already sit forward would look thicker with extra ceramic. Those cases often need conventional preparation or orthodontics first.

Will I see the result before bonding?

Most clinics make a resin mock-up from a digital design so you can check the length and shape in your mouth.

How do thin laminates cope with dark stains?

Poorly. Thin ceramic is partly translucent, so a dark tooth shows through. Whitening first or a thicker veneer may be suggested.

Can I get laminates and whitening in the same trip?

Yes, but whitening goes first, and the laminate shade is chosen about 1 to 2 weeks later once tooth colour settles.
