What is Porcelain Veneers?

A porcelain veneer is a thin ceramic shell bonded to the front of a tooth. In Korea the same restoration is usually called a laminate (라미네이트), so price lists use that word. This page covers conventional veneers where the tooth is shaved to make room for the ceramic.

Conventional veneers can mask dark staining, worn edges and old fillings better than minimal-prep options, because the ceramic can be thicker and more opaque.

How it works

The dentist removes about 0.3 to 0.7 mm of enamel from the front of each tooth, takes a scan or impression, and fits temporaries. A dental lab mills or presses the veneers, often in lithium disilicate (e.max) or feldspathic porcelain. At the second visit they are tried in, adjusted for shade and bonded with resin cement.

Who it suits

  • Front teeth with deep staining that whitening cannot lift
  • Chipped, worn or uneven front teeth
  • Small gaps or mild crowding the patient does not want to fix with orthodontics
  • Teeth with old, discoloured front fillings

Who should skip it or wait

  • Severe crowding or bite problems better treated with orthodontics
  • Heavy grinders without a night guard
  • Teeth with little enamel left, which may need crowns instead
  • People with active gum disease or untreated decay

Side effects and risks

  • Irreversible removal of enamel
  • Tooth sensitivity after preparation
  • Debonding or chipping of the porcelain
  • Shade or shape mismatch that needs remaking
  • Gum irritation at the veneer edge

Aftercare

  • Avoid biting hard objects such as ice or pen caps
  • Wear a night guard if you grind
  • Brush and floss normally with non-abrasive toothpaste
  • Return for a bite check if anything feels high

Planning around your trip

Book at least 7 to 10 days in Seoul so the lab has time to make the veneers and you can attend a final bite check before flying.

Porcelain Veneers questions

Are veneers and laminates the same thing in Korea?

Yes. Korean clinics use 라미네이트 for ceramic veneers. When comparing prices, check the material and how much tooth will be removed rather than the name.

How many teeth do people usually do?

Many patients treat the 6 to 10 teeth that show when they smile. Doing too few can leave a visible colour difference.

Can I choose a very white shade?

You can, but dentists often suggest a shade that still matches your lower teeth. Very bright shades on a few teeth stand out.

What happens to my teeth while the veneers are made?

You wear temporary resin veneers. They can come loose, so avoid sticky and hard food until the final bonding.

Does the price include VAT?

Cosmetic dental work such as laminates carries 10% VAT in Korea, usually included in the quoted price. The VAT refund scheme for foreign cosmetic patients ended on 31 December 2025, and a bill to restore it was still pending in late 2026.

Can a broken veneer be repaired at home?

Small chips can sometimes be polished or bonded by any dentist. A cracked or lost veneer usually needs a new one, so keep the shade and material details.
