What is Septoplasty with Rhinoplasty?

Septorhinoplasty (비중격 코성형) combines septoplasty, which straightens the wall between the nostrils, with cosmetic rhinoplasty. It suits people with a blocked nose and a crooked or low profile.

The straightened septum also supplies cartilage that the surgeon reuses for tip grafts, which reduces the need for ear or rib cartilage.

How it works

Under general anesthesia the surgeon lifts the lining off the septum, removes or straightens the bent part while keeping an L-shaped strut for support, and may reduce enlarged turbinates. The harvested cartilage is then used for the cosmetic part. Soft splints or light packing stay in the nose for 1 to 7 days.

The septoplasty part is billed under Korean national insurance only for enrolled patients. Visitors without NHI coverage pay the full cost, and insurance for combined cosmetic surgery is under closer review in 2025-2026.

Who it suits

Who should skip it or wait

  • Blockage caused only by allergic rhinitis
  • Uncontrolled sinus infection
  • Under 18, before nasal growth ends

Side effects and risks

  • Septal perforation
  • Loss of tip support if too much cartilage is taken
  • Persistent blockage
  • Bleeding in the first days
  • Implant-related problems if a bridge implant is used

Aftercare

  • Use saline rinses as instructed
  • No nose blowing for 2 weeks
  • Sneeze with the mouth open
  • Avoid hot showers and heavy exercise for 2 weeks

Planning around your trip

Stay 10 to 14 days; splints and stitches come out on day 5 to 7, and flying is best after the follow-up a few days later.

Septoplasty with Rhinoplasty questions

Will insurance pay for part of this?

Only if you are enrolled in Korean national health insurance and the deviation is documented. Most tourists pay the full fee for both parts.

Will I have nasal packing?

Many clinics now use soft internal splints rather than thick packing. They usually come out within 1 to 7 days.

How soon will I breathe better?

Breathing feels blocked for the first 2 weeks because of swelling. Improvement is usually clear by 4 to 6 weeks.

Do I need a CT scan with Septoplasty with Rhinoplasty?

Usually, yes. A CT shows the septum, turbinates and sinuses, and helps the surgeon plan the functional part.

Why is there no listed price?

Costs depend on how the functional and cosmetic parts are combined and on insurance status, so published ranges are not reliable. Ask for a written quote.

Will a crooked nose be fully straight?

Most crooked noses improve a lot, but cartilage has memory and a slight deviation can return. Surgeons often use spreader grafts to reduce this.
