What is Vaginal Rejuvenation (Laser, RF and Surgical)?

Vaginal rejuvenation covers two quite different things: in-office energy treatments that heat the vaginal wall, and surgical tightening (vaginoplasty or perineoplasty) that removes and repairs stretched tissue. Gangnam gynecology clinics offer both.

Women usually ask about it for laxity after vaginal birth, menopausal dryness, or mild stress urinary leakage.

How it works

Fractional CO2 or Er:YAG lasers and radiofrequency probes deliver controlled heat to the vaginal lining to trigger collagen remodeling. Sessions take 10 to 20 minutes, typically 3 sessions one month apart. Surgery tightens the vaginal canal and rebuilds the perineal muscles through incisions inside the vagina, with dissolving stitches.

The US FDA has warned that energy devices are not cleared specifically for vaginal rejuvenation, and long-term trial data are limited, so expectations should be modest.

Who it suits

  • Mild laxity after one or more vaginal births
  • Menopausal dryness when local estrogen is not suitable
  • Women with a widened vaginal opening after a perineal tear (surgical option)

Who should skip it or wait

  • Active infection, undiagnosed bleeding or abnormal Pap results
  • Pregnancy or planning another vaginal birth soon (surgery)
  • Significant prolapse, which needs pelvic floor assessment first
  • Expecting a guaranteed cure for incontinence

Side effects and risks

  • Burning, discharge or spotting after device sessions
  • Pain during intercourse after surgery, sometimes lasting months
  • Infection or wound breakdown
  • Over-tightening needing revision
  • Limited proof of long-term benefit for devices

Aftercare

  • Avoid intercourse, swimming and baths for the time your doctor gives
  • Use sitz baths and keep the area dry after surgery
  • Do not lift heavy weights for 2 weeks after surgery
  • Continue pelvic floor exercises
  • Report fever or increasing pain promptly

Planning around your trip

For surgery, plan at least 7 days in Seoul so the doctor can check the wound before you fly.

Vaginal Rejuvenation (Laser, RF and Surgical) questions

Does vaginal laser actually tighten the canal?

Laser and RF can improve tissue thickness and moisture in some women, but they do not narrow the canal the way surgery does. Studies are small and short, so treat it as a mild option.

How soon after giving birth can I have this done?

Most doctors wait at least 6 months after delivery and until breastfeeding has finished, since hormones affect the tissue and healing.

Can vaginal laser help with leaking when I sneeze?

Some women with mild stress incontinence report fewer leaks, but results are inconsistent. Pelvic floor therapy is the first step, and a sling procedure is the standard surgical fix for moderate cases.

Is surgical vaginoplasty combined with labiaplasty?

It can be done in the same session, which shares one anesthesia and recovery period. Ask how the combined price and stitch care differ.

Will a future vaginal birth undo the surgery?

It can. Surgeons usually advise finishing your family first, or discussing a cesarean delivery with your obstetrician later.

When can I fly after vaginal surgery?

A short-haul flight is usually fine after 3 to 5 days. For long flights, walk in the aisle and wait until the first wound check, often around day 5 to 7.
