What is Brow Lift (Forehead Lift)?

A brow lift (이마거상) raises the eyebrows and the forehead skin as one unit. It suits people whose heaviness above the eyes comes from a drooping brow rather than eyelid skin.

Most Gangnam clinics use the endoscopic method, with 3 to 5 short incisions behind the hairline. Patients with a very high forehead may be offered a hairline incision instead, which can lower the hairline at the same time.

How it works

Using a camera, the surgeon lifts the forehead tissue off the bone, releases the ligaments around the brow and weakens the frown muscles. The lifted tissue is fixed higher with absorbable devices such as Endotine or with screws and sutures. Closure is with staples in the scalp.

Will my hairline move?

With the endoscopic method it rises by a few millimetres. If your forehead is already tall, ask about a hairline incision, which keeps or lowers it.

How long will my scalp feel numb?

Numbness and tingling behind the incisions commonly last 3 to 6 months while the sensory nerves recover.

Should I get a brow lift or upper blepharoplasty?

If lifting your brows with your fingers makes the lid look right, a brow lift addresses the cause. If the lid still looks heavy, you may need eyelid surgery too or instead.

Will I look surprised?

A good lift raises the outer brow more than the inner part, which avoids the startled look. Ask to see the planned brow height marked before surgery.
