What is Comprehensive Health Checkup?
Korea's private screening centers are built for volume and speed: in about 4 to 6 hours you can have blood tests, imaging and endoscopy in one building. Gangnam has several large centers and hospital-affiliated programs with international desks.
Many visitors book a package once every one or two years because it is faster and cheaper than arranging each test separately at home.
How it works
You fast from the evening before, then move through stations: body measurements, blood and urine samples, ECG, chest X-ray, abdominal and thyroid ultrasound, and add-ons such as low-dose chest CT, coronary calcium CT, brain MRI, mammogram or breast ultrasound. Gastroscopy and colonoscopy are done under sedation at the end. A doctor reviews findings on the day or at a follow-up, and a full report comes 1 to 3 weeks later.
Who it suits
- Adults over 40 wanting broad screening in one visit
- People with a family history of stomach, colon or thyroid cancer
- Expats without a regular doctor
- Visitors who want an English report to share with their home doctor
Who should skip it or wait
- Acute symptoms that need diagnosis now
- Pregnancy, unless the package is adjusted to avoid radiation
- People who will not follow up incidental findings
Side effects and risks
- Incidental findings leading to further tests
- Radiation exposure from CT
- Small risk of bleeding or perforation with endoscopy, higher if polyps are removed
- Reactions to sedation or contrast
Aftercare
- Do not drive or sign contracts on the day of sedation
- Eat soft food after polyp removal
- Ask for images and reports in digital form
- Book a follow-up for any flagged result before you leave Korea

Comprehensive Health Checkup questions
What is the difference between a basic and a premium package?
Basic packages cover blood tests, X-ray, abdominal ultrasound and usually gastroscopy. Premium packages add colonoscopy, CT scans, brain MRI and cardiac tests.
Do I need to do bowel prep for the colonoscopy?
Yes. Expect a low-fiber diet for 2 to 3 days and a bowel prep solution the evening before and early morning of the test.
Will I get an English report?
Centers with international clinics usually provide English reports and a translated summary. Confirm when booking.
Is low-dose chest CT worth adding?
It is recommended for current or former heavy smokers aged 50 or over. For non-smokers, the benefit is less clear and incidental findings are common.
Can I bring my own medications on the day?
Take blood pressure medicine with a sip of water unless told otherwise. Diabetes medicines and blood thinners need specific instructions before fasting.
What if something abnormal is found?
The doctor explains it and may suggest a specialist visit. If you are leaving soon, ask for a referral letter in English.
