What is IPL Photofacial?
IPL (intense pulsed light) is a flashlamp that emits a broad spectrum of light, roughly 500 to 1200 nm, filtered for each target. Brown pigment and small red vessels absorb the light and break down. Lumenis M22 and similar systems are common in Gangnam.
Apgujeong patients book IPL for freckles, sun spots and general redness, especially after summer.
How it works
Cooling gel is applied and the crystal head flashes over the skin. Pigment darkens into small coffee-ground spots that flake off within a week, while heated vessels fade gradually.

IPL Photofacial questions
Is IPL a laser?
No. IPL is a filtered flashlamp with many wavelengths, while lasers emit a single wavelength.
Why do spots look darker after IPL?
Treated pigment rises and darkens before flaking off, usually within a week. It is an expected sign.
Can IPL treat melasma?
It is usually avoided for melasma because heat can make it worse. Toning or medication is preferred.
How many IPL sessions are needed?
Most people do 3 to 5 sessions about a month apart.
Can I wear makeup after IPL?
Usually the same day or the next day, unless blistering occurs.
Is IPL safe for Asian skin?
Yes with care. Doctors use filters and lower settings on darker or tanned skin to reduce the risk of burns and pigment change.
