What is Sculptra (PLLA)?

Sculptra is made by Galderma and contains poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). It is approved in the US for correcting facial volume loss and smile lines. It is one of the most studied collagen stimulators.

It suits people with a hollow or deflated face who want a natural change without an obviously filled look. Results take months to appear and can last around two years.

How it works

The powder is mixed with sterile water, often a day ahead, and injected deep with a needle or cannula. The water is absorbed within days, and PLLA particles then trigger collagen growth over the next 2-3 months.

Doctors often follow the '5-5-5' massage rule: massage 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days, to spread the product.

How many vials does a full face need?

Many patients need 2-4 vials over the full course. Thin or older faces may need more.

Why do I look normal again after a few days?

The mixing water is absorbed in days, so early fullness fades. The real volume grows from collagen over the next months.

Is Sculptra the same as Juvelook Volume?

Both stimulate collagen. Sculptra uses PLLA and Juvelook Volume uses PDLLA, and the products differ in particle size, mixing and timing.

What if I get a lump?

Small lumps often settle with massage. Persistent nodules may need injections or, rarely, removal, so choose an experienced injector.

Can I fly after Sculptra?

Flying is fine. Keep doing the massage routine while traveling.

Will Sculptra lift sagging skin?

It restores volume, which can lift slightly. True skin laxity responds better to HIFU, radiofrequency or surgery.
