What is Skin Booster (HA Water-glow Injection)?

'Skin booster' covers many injectables placed in the skin rather than under it. The classic Korean one is 물광주사 (mulgwang, water-glow), which uses non-cross-linked or lightly cross-linked hyaluronic acid to hydrate the skin from inside.

Other boosters on Gangnam menus include PDRN (often called salmon injection), Rejuran (PN), Juvelook (PDLLA) and Skinvive by Allergan. This page covers the HA glow type. See the linked pages for the others.

How it works

HA binds water. When it is placed evenly in the dermis with an injector gun or by hand, the skin looks plumper, smoother and more reflective. Some clinics add vitamins, PDRN or diluted toxin to the mix.

One session usually uses about 2cc across the face. The effect builds over 2-3 sessions.

What is the difference between mulgwang and Rejuran?

Mulgwang uses HA for hydration and glow. Rejuran uses PN for repair and skin thickness, with more bumps and a longer course.

Is an injector gun or hand injection better?

Guns place many even, shallow shots quickly. Hand injection lets the doctor adjust depth area by area. Results depend more on the doctor than the tool.

What is Skinvive?

Skinvive by Allergan is an HA microdroplet product approved in the US for cheek skin smoothness. It is one of the pricier boosters in Seoul.

How soon before an event should I book?

About 1 week before is a good window. Bumps settle in 1-2 days and the glow peaks after that.

Can I get a booster right after a laser?

Many clinics combine them in one visit. The booster can help skin recover, but ask about extra redness.

How long does the glow last?
