What is Ultherapy?

Ultherapy is a micro-focused ultrasound device made by Merz Aesthetics. It is cleared by the US FDA to lift the brow and the skin under the chin and neck, and to improve lines on the chest. Its built-in ultrasound imaging lets the doctor see the tissue layers before firing each line of energy.

In Apgujeong, Ultherapy is usually chosen by people with early jowls, a heavy lower face or a drooping brow who want a deeper lift than skin-level RF can give, without surgery.

How it works

Transducers fire rows of tiny heat points at fixed depths, typically 4.5 mm for the SMAS layer, 3.0 mm for the deep dermis and 1.5 mm for the upper dermis. Each point reaches about 60-70 C, which contracts tissue and starts collagen repair.

The imaging screen helps the doctor avoid bone and adjust depth on thin areas.

Planning around your trip

Ultherapy has no visible downtime, so you can do it on day one or two of your trip and still sightsee, but leave a few days in Seoul in case of tender spots you want checked.

Ultherapy questions

How many Ultherapy shots should I get?

300 shots typically covers the lower face and jawline, while 400 to 600 shots covers the full face and under-chin. The number depends on face size and skin thickness.

Is Ultherapy more painful than Thermage?

Most patients rate Ultherapy as more painful, especially at 4.5 mm over the jawbone. Clinics use numbing cream and can add pain medication or sedation.

What is the difference between Ultherapy and Shurink?

Both use focused ultrasound, but Ultherapy has real-time imaging and places energy at verified depths. Shurink is cheaper per shot and often repeated more often.

Can Ultherapy make my face look gaunt?

It can on very thin faces if too many deep shots go into the cheeks. Tell the doctor if you already have hollow cheeks so they focus on the jawline and neck.

How do I check that it is real Ultherapy?

Genuine Merz transducers are authenticated by the device, and clinics in Korea run an authenticity campaign for the Prime model. You can ask to see the transducer and the shot count on screen.

Do clinics include VAT in the quoted price?

Often not. Expect 10% added at payment, and note that the tourist VAT refund on cosmetic procedures was not in effect after 2025.

Can I get filler right after Ultherapy?

Many doctors prefer filler first or on a later visit, so ultrasound heat does not affect the product. Botox can usually be done the same day.
